GLOBAL FOREST CORP
HISTORY Incorporated 1990 in Scottsboro, Alabama, Global Forest Corp has been unique ever since its inception.
After 10 years of advising the top CEO’s of the Taiwanese wood industry, Dr. Spencer Lei, a hands-on academic and a graduate of Virginia Tech and Oregon State University, decided to pursue the research challenge of a lifetime—to solicit support and carry out a self-sufficient research project in the real world.
The objectives of this research project were (1) to create a business model that constitutes a breakthrough in the wood industry, (2) to perfect the business model while experimentally executes it in the real world, and (3) to ensure that the business model has unlimited growth potential.
Backed by eight corporate and individual investors which include the largest forest products conglomerate in Taiwan (then), a prominent wood industrialist in Alabama, and the largest furniture producer in China (now) as silent partners, Dr. Lei returned to the US and commenced his exploratory venture. It took 16 long years to create and craft the unprecedented business model, Hardwood Center®, which Dr. Lei believes has finally met the original objectives of the research project. Now, Hardwood Center is ready to expand aggressively first in the Southeast, and then nationwide.
THE BUSINESS MODEL Just what is so special about the Hardwood Center business model?
The creation and crafting of the Hardwood Center business model is based on answering two major questions: (1) What is it that Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other traditional lumber companies do not have and cannot do? (2) What is it that Hardwood Center can do that other companies cannot copy or compete with? Not only have these questions been thoroughly studied for the past 16 years in order to obtain the answers, but the answers have also been implemented and verified during that time.
OUR VISION The Hardwood Center business model is dynamic and open-ended. It can and will continue evolve in both depth and scope of merchandises and services through research in utilizing wood materials—a renewable natural resources. Someday, Hardwood Center will be the number one place in America for consumers to shop for hardwood products. Hardwood Center will also be the most ideal channel for manufacturers worldwide to retail direct to American consumers. Some day, there will be a Hardwood Center chain nationwide.
